We were invited to friends for lunch last Sunday and I wanted to take flowers as a thank you gift. Having found a lovely jug whilst shopping on Saturday, I headed out into the garden on Sunday morning to see what I could find. I was delighted to discover that one of my favourite combinations, dark maroon tulips and purple lilac, had just started to flower. I cut a selection of the dark tulips, added a few tulip Spring Green as a contrast and then wove in the beautiful purple lilac. A few stems of cow parsley added an airy texture and some heads of viburnum burkwoodii completed the bouquet, adding a wonderful scent.
I had to balance the jug on my knee all the way to London, but the wafting scent of the lilac and viburnum more than compensated for any discomfort.
