Most of the tulips in my garden are past their best now, but a walk around the garden on Saturday revealed the beautiful Tulip Exotic Emperor only just coming into flower. A large bunch of these tulips, together with lots of pure white lilac and some stems of acid green viburnum that I had bought at the market provided the inspiration for the bouquet I wanted to make for a hostess gift to take to a dinner party last night.

In the end I made two arrangements to compliment each other: the large bouquet presented in a storm lantern and a smaller posy from the left over viburnum combined with a few heads of the beautifully scented viburnum burkwoodii, which fitted nicely into a jam jar. The dinner party was a great success.  Delicious food and wine and chat that lasted well into the night in front of a roaring log fire (still very welcome in May!).

Tonight I am preparing myself for a trip to London to visit the Chelsea Flower Show. I am travelling up by train with three friends tomorrow for a bit of shopping and dinner. Hopefully we will make it to Sloane Square to see the shop windows dressed with flowers. Then we will be up bright and early for Tuesday’s show. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a fine day and hopefully I will have some photos to share later in the week.
