I am very sorry to have taken so long to write this post! June has been a hectic month with lots to share, but finding time to sit and prepare has been hard.

So, back to the Sussex Flower School.  Day Two found me awake early and itching with excitement! My first day nerves were over, I knew what to expect and I couldn’t wait to get back in the car and get on with the day.

Before the course I had told Georgia that I had been invited to a lunch on Friday and had offered to take a table arrangement. I had asked her if we could make one on the course. Once there, after a cup of tea and a quick chat, Georgia suggested we get on with the table arrangement. I picked a colour scheme to include more of the pink roses and blue nigella.

Georgia showed me how to create a rosemary bowl to hold the arrangement, which would be anchored in oasis and include a central candle. The rosemary bowl involved a lot of double sided carpet tape, an elastic band, lots of rosemary and a ribbon to cover the workings.

The finished arrangement looked and smelt fantastic – a really summery idea for a lunch table.

After a lovely lunch and more tea and chatting, we started the second arrangement of the day. This I found more daunting as it was a very large arrangement designed to sit on top of a tall cylinder vase and be seen from all angles. Such an arrangement would work at a dinner table as guests could see through it or in a hallway on a circular table. It could also be scaled up to create a number of matching arrangements for a wedding or other large reception.

I had not worked on this scale before and found it challenging to create something that would look good from all viewpoints. The arrangement was made in oasis and Georgia taught me how to start with the foliage and create the framework of the arrangement. For this we used soft ruscus and eucalyptus.  I then placed delphiniums and hydrangeas in the arrangement and added the fillers which were astrantias and gentians.  As a final touch I plugged the gaps with beautiful peonies to really fill the display out.  The final arrangement looked stunning displayed in the studio on a tall pedestal covered with a black draping fabric.

After another fantastic day I left the studio to go and met my friend and discover the delights of shopping in Lewes. A quick whip round just a few of the antique shops resulted in a number of vintage finds in which to display flowers back home and a decision to return soon for a proper look around. We headed home as the shops shut and enjoyed a relaxed evening around their dining room table.

Day three will follow soon, but I will catch up on last weeks events first and take some pictures of the garden for you before the beautiful month of June has passed.
