Being a romantically inclined sort of girl I always like to make a nod towards Valentine’s Day in mid February. I am not keen on the commercial interpretation with over priced restaurant meals and jaw droopingly expensive bouquets. A few flowers at home, a glass of champagne and a flickering fire are more my style.

In preparation for Valentine’s Day later this week, I have been inspired to make a heart shaped wreath to hang on our front door. Not having any heart shaped oasis to hand, I managed to find a heart shaped wicker frame whilst shopping yesterday and covered this with some spag moss left over from Christmas to add depth and soften the look.

Red roses were not to be found at the flower stall at the market – clearly the florist’s shops have bagged the lot this year. I was, however, very happy with the mix of pink and muted mauve roses that I did manage to find – a nod to ‘The Day’ without being too overt and at the same reasonable price as usual (3 bunches for £5).

The perfectly coloured velvet ribbon was left over from a Christmas wreath. I also used a few stems of freesia to lighten the arrangement and add a beautiful drift of scent.

I always love to put hypericum berries with roses!

On yet another overcast day, I was once again lucky that the sun came out just I started to take the photographs. The spag moss adds a lovely hazy background which catches the sunlight.

I hope you enjoyed the flowers this Sunday and that I might have inspired you to add a touch of romance to your week.

I will be back tomorrow with In A Vase On Monday, which will also have a romantic inspiration with flowers from my garden.
