For Valentine’s Day I thought I would share with you a few romantically inspired flower arrangements that I have made in recent years. As you have probably guessed – I love any excuse for a bit of flower arranging!

The first is a door wreath made for a Valentine’s Party that we held a couple of years ago. All the guests were instructed to wear something romantic and each couple contributed their special song to the romantically inspired playlist. After the quiet post New Year period the guests were in the mood for a party and a great evening resulted.

Next I have some beautiful roses that I found last year on the flower stall at the market. Really you should not buy your own red roses, but these were too good to miss!

Last year we were invited to a Valentine Supper and I contributed the table arrangement. I was lucky to find copious amounts of red carnations at the supermarket on special offer, so these inspired my arrangement. Until recent years I was not a fan of carnations, but having seen them used almost as topiary on a number of occasions I am now a convert. You need to purchase your carnations a good few days before the event to give them time to open fully. Then choose your oasis shape – in this case a wreath so that I could fit the red tea lights into the centre. Finally cut the stems very short and fill the oasis with your chosen colour of carnations. The final effect is simple but opulent. I added hypericum berries and pearl pins to add to the glamorous feel.

Finally the heart shaped door wreath that I made earlier this week. It is still looking fresh hanging outside on the front door. Fortunately there is an overhanging porch above the door which is giving protection against the heavy rain and wind that has been with us all week.
