Once again I was drawn to the springlike shades of the tulips, hyacinths and anemones at the market yesterday. Whilst my garden is just beginning to awaken with the snowdrops and hellebores slowly showing their beauty, this burst of colour in my vases shouts out that spring is on its way.
These blue hyacinths smell divine.
After last weeks large and airy display, I have cut these pale pink tulips down to short stems and chosen a cut glass jug to show off their elegant grace.
These tiny pink anemones needed a very delicate setting to make the most of their fragile beauty – after a few false starts with other vessels a white soup cup proved to be the perfect vase.
Together these three arrangements have brought the spring garden into my January sitting room.
Are these the same tulips, Julie? Haven’t they lasted well? And seeing bunches of flowers like hyacinths and anemones is such a treat as I guess most of us would never be able to spare as many of these from our own gardens. I wonder what you will be sparing from your garden tomorrow…?
No Cathy – these are fresh ones although very similar to last weeks in colour. The tulips from last week made it through to Thursday, but then started dropping petals everywhere so had to go.
You are right about the numbers of flowers – it is very hard to have sufficient of these types of flowers from the garden to be generous in arrangements. I am just lucky that the flower stall on the local market is so cheap. As for tomorrow – a state secret of course!!
What a beautiful blog you have here! The photos are spectacular – your lighting is perfect! I’m trying hellebores and snowdrops for the first time this year and can’t wait to see more of yours. I’m just dying for Spring to arrive!!
Welcome and thank you for your kind comments! I hope your hellebores and snowdrops are successful – winter has not been dreary since I discovered these beautiful flowers about 8 years ago. Every year I plant a few more hellebores and some of them are growing into quite big clumps now. Hopefully I will have lots of photos to share over the next few weeks, as long as the snow stays away.
