Welcome to ‘In A Vase On Monday’ when I am linking up with Cathy at Rambling In The Garden to join her challenge to fill a vase for the house from the garden every week.
This is a very quick post tonight as we are all madly rushing around with last minute holiday preparations – I just managed to quickly pick a bunch of sweet peas from the greenhouse to share with you tonight – I am so pleased with my indoor growing experiment. Although I have masses of sweet peas in flower in the Cutting Garden, this year I have been plagued with pollen beetles which have made the crop unusable. Very few of the beetles have ventured into the greenhouse, so although I only planted a few plants in there they are the ones which are supplying my indoor vases this year.
I also took a few quick photos of the beautiful blush coloured rose Joie de Vivre, which is flowering this week. I had planned to make my vase today with this rose combined with alchemilla mollis, but time has got the better of me – still I wanted to share this beauty with you before the flowers fade.
I apologise for the haste in which I have prepared this post, but I do not want to start my holiday without joining in with Cathy’s weekly meme – I am already looking forward to getting back to the routine of this weekly challenge later in July!
So I wish you adieu for a couple of weeks and look forward to returning to my garden and to Peonies & Posies refreshed from my summer break. In the meantime I hope that you have a very good couple of weeks and that all is well in your gardens!
Fantastic sweet peas! What gorgeous colours. I can smell them from here. This is the worst year I can remember for pollen beetle. They have been crawling all over everything. I’ m convinced it’ s because the farmers grow ever more oil seed rape. And we are in the worst area for it.
Your lovely rose is a late one or has it been flowering for a while?
Have a lovely holiday Julie.
Your sweet peas look lovely in the pale blue pitcher and the rose is an especially pretty pink. I have never been successful in growing sweet peas so never realized what pests might be out to get them. Have a great time away.
Lovely arrangement — your sweet peas are gorgeous!! Fantastic job!!
Very pretty, Julie! My own sweet peas are but a distant memory so it’s nice to see them again in someone else’s garden (or, in this case, vase).
Both your sweet peas and rose are very beautiful .the second photo of sweet peas and the photos of roses are flawless .loved it!
The range of soft colours is gorgeous, Julie – what are the greyey/purpley ones? Are these in a bed in the greenhouse, or in pots? Although I have been aware of pollen beetle on alot of things they haven’t been on the sweet peas, but I must get used to picking mine regularly now I have made such a success at growing them! Lovely to see your rose too – shame it will still be blooming on while you are away! Have a lovely time – and look out for gardens while you are away! Thanks for sharing, as always.
Gorgeous! Love those colours and the photos are superb Julie! Have a fabulous holiday!
The sweet peas you grow are so lovely! I especially like the purple and white variety. The color is quite striking. Enjoy your vacation!
Hi Julie – your sweet peas are gorgeous. I’ve found my paler ones seem to have longer stems this year and hence I’m using them more. Do you know if that’s quite common?
Also I love the rose. Does it last well in the vase?
Hope the holiday’s going well. We’re away from Sunday and in some ways I’m dreading it because I’m worrying what state the garden will be in when we get back!
A most attractive bunch of sweet peas. Is that ‘Wiltshire Ripple’ amongst them?
Hope that you’ve had or are having a great holiday Julie.
